Michael Diedrich is a native of Rapid City and has spent much of his professional career in the public sector.
He earned both his Bachelor of Science degree in political science and sociology, and his Juris Doctorate degree from the University of South Dakota.
After graduating from law school, Mr. Diedrich served as an assistant city attorney in Rapid City, and was later appointed to city attorney where his duties included public financing, land use regulation, human resources and union negotiations, as well as intergovernmental agreements. During his tenure as city attorney, Mr. Diedrich also served as legal advisor to the Airport Board, the Planning Commission, and the Civic Center Board.
He later attended Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, earning a Masters in Public Administration. Both before and after attending Harvard, Diedrich served as a South Dakota state senator.
Prior to joining Bettmann, Hogue and Diedrich, he worked as vice president and general counsel for Sodak Gaming, Inc., along with several other subsidiary corporations; his responsibilities included all legal aspects of business development. Mr. Diedrich also provided legal leadership for the company’s strategy and regulatory compliance in Indian Country, the United States, Russia, Costa Rica, Peru, Brazil, and Ecuador.
He is licensed to practice in South Dakota state trial and appellate courts as well as federal courts, the Eighth Circuit United States Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.
